Suspended Ceiling (London / Essex)
What is a suspended ceiling?
A suspended ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below the main (structural) ceiling. They may also be referred to as a drop ceiling or false ceiling and are a staple of modern construction and architecture. The area above the dropped ceiling is called the plenum space, as it is sometimes used for HVAC air return. The plenum space is also very commonly used to conceal piping, wiring, and/or ductworkA typical dropped ceiling consists of a grid-work of metal channels in the shape of an upside-down "T", suspended on wires from the overhead structure. These channels snap together in a regularly spaced pattern ñ typically 600 x 600 mm grid in Europe (this is the modular size of the grid, the tiles are actually 595mm x 595mm or 595mm x 1195mm). Each cell is filled with lightweight "tiles" [2] or "panels" which simply drop into the grid. Tiles can be selected with a variety of materials, including wood, metal, plastic, or mineral fibers, and can come in almost any color. Light fixtures, HVAC air grilles, and other fixtures are available which can fit the same space as a tile for easy installation. Most tile material is easily cut to allow fixtures in other shapes, such as incandescent lights, speakers, and fire sprinkler heads

Metal stud partitions (Dry lining)
Metal stud partitions are probably the most common types of partitions used when dividing rooms or offices. The reason for this is the ease in which they can be erected and can be taken down and move without causing to much mess or disruption. Metal stud partitions are also used for other reasons, i.e. acoustics, fire protection, moisture resistant and can even incorporate ply in the building of the wall so as other items can be fixed to the wall. Once jointed or plastered they can be painted or papered to what ever meets your requirement.

Solid glazed partitions
Solid glazed partitions are made from solid glass as you would imagine. They come in different thicknesses, usually 10 - 12mm. They are normally fitted into a brushed metal or chrome frame work. Either way they are very aesthetic and provide more visibility and light. The glass can have manifestations added to promote your company or simply add to the dÈcor of the office, shop or restaurant. These partitions are very sturdy and can easily cope with many of today businesses.

Rendering can be made from sand and cement or be a product that as been purposely made for exterior rendering. Like K Rend or Monocouche. Monocouche and K rend are made to be fully water essistant and and are designed so s never having to be painted.
Plastering walls is a time honoured wet trade, commonly thought of as the oldest trade we know of. However still widely used today in many environments. Plastering gives a smooth flat finish with no sanding or filling and ready for decorating.
Venetian marble plastering is crushed marble mixed with a special dye and spread over a prepared flat surface. Itís then troweled off to give a smooth glass like appearance just like marble.

Plaster rendering, K Rendering, Monocouche can all be applied in all different colours and K Render and Monocouche are both water resistant. They prove to be less maintenance and very cost affective

The problem with ceramics
In busy locations like kitchens, knocks to walls from trolleys, pots and pans etc are commonplace. Glazed ceramic tiles are vulnerable to damage, being easily scratched, chipped or cracked. This surface damage means that contaminated water can penetrate the tile leading to unsightly stains and bacterial growth. To make matters worse, tiles are often fixed incorrectly.
According to the Ceramic Tile Federation, this applies to 65% of all tile installations, leading to serious problems, in kitchens and showers especially. For these areas, tile manufacturers and food regulations specify the use of water-resistant adhesives and epoxy grouts. It is difficult to be sure that these have been used until, of course, it is too late and the damage has been done.
The solution is sheet wall cladding

There are various types of fire-rated ceiling and it is essential that the building owner or designer is clear about exactly what he requires or, if the ceiling is in place, exactly what fire rating the ceiling has. Essentially there are four basic types:
In the case of installing a ceiling for fire protection, where you encounter exposed joists .The simplest way to achieve increased fire protection is to apply a fireproof lining to the underside of the floor above, but this may destroy decorative plasterwork and other historically important detail in older more decorative dwellings. The addition of protective fillings between the joists or the addition of a protective lining to the floor above will usually allow decorative ceilings to remain undisturbed.
Most of the time this isnít an issue and a good architect can normally advise on what suspended ceiling or partition system is adequate for use.
While this is the case when fire rating your ceiling, itís not often you find historical or ornate decorative items on an existing interior walls. That cannot be removed and re-installed afterwards.
There also tiled suspended ceilings which can brighten up any office, kitchen or bathroom. And still give you a fire rating, but itís still down to what you are fixing to or what it protecting.
Partitions come in may different systems as well. You have demountable partitions that also have fire ratings and still do not have to completely hind the rest of the room from view. Glass partitions are still available and they carry fire rating as well

Regular Ceiling Panels
Regular ceiling panels are composed of perlite, wood fiber, glass wool, plastic and/or recycled paper. They usually have patterns of holes to help with sound absorption although they can have pressed patterns to mimic plaster work or metal ceilings. In many cases, the tiles are coated with a thin vinyl for easier cleaning. Most insulated ceiling tiles used in commercial applications are two-feet by four-feet rectangles
Closed-Edge Panels
Closed-edge insulated ceiling tiles usually have an inner foam core surrounded by a mixture of resin and fiberglass, which molds to a rigid form. Unlike the regular insulated ceiling tiles, closed-edge tiles are sealed off and impermeable to moisture and other contamination like airborne grease and dirt. The sealed panel can take a 40-pound load capacity so they are incredibly strong. Many decorative tiles are the closed-edge type for a better fit in suspended T-grid ceiling frames.

This is not to say that you should ignore insulation in the attic. Without attic insulation, a home homeowner would have to stack many tiles to get close to R-40, the recommended insulation protection required with R-2000 homes. However, they are the icing on the cake and can prevent heat or HVA-cooled air from penetrating the ceiling
